From Jazz to Classical: Saxophone lessons in Barcelona

Jazz Lessons in Barcelona.
Don't wait anymore and start your new hobby!

If you love music and you feel the inner urge to learn it, I can help you out. I can teach students from all levels to play the saxophone. From jazz style to classical.

After years of studying and practicing, I've come to the conclusion that the best way to learn music is by transcribing and singing. Music is like language, so I start by teaching how to connect the voice with the instrument. In a playful way, I will introduce you to harmony, teach you how to read music, compose your own tunes, and improvise. Side by side with theory according to your musical taste and preferences.

I've been learning music since I was 3 years old and recently I've graduated with a Master's Degree at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Previously, I studied at ESMUC (Barcelona), Kunst Uni Graz (Graz), and Temple University (Philadelphia). I've been a professional performer since 5 years ago and I've performed in several countries around the world.

Über mich

My first encounter with music was when I was 3 years old. Between singing, playing and
finding out the keyword to enter my classroom, I've learnt about rhythm, songs and
chords. Back home, among my family, I grew up surrounded by musicians. My mother is
a piano player, my father a drummer, my uncle a guitar player and my grandfather was
a multi-instrumentalist. Music has been part of my life since I can remember. From piano
to drums and later on to sax, I've found my own voice.
Nowadays, under the same spirit and joy that I've experienced when I was little, I try to
teach my students how to find their own. I believe that no matter at what age you start
in order to study music, you need to be patient and find the playfulness of the
instrument. I often improvise a class according to the age and level of a student. I
develop a personalized method focused on the relationship voice – instrument. You
don’t need to know how to sing. The simple act of singing and memorizing a song helps
us to understand our body. Its rhythm, breathe and ability to listen, brings us the right
posture to embrace an instrument. Later on, as the student develops, I provide exercises
for technique building, scales and music theory that will be part of home studying. The
goal is to help the student to achieve a level of improvisation and fulfillment. For that
matter, I find it crucial that the person decides what kind of music they would like to
learn. I am very open minded to all kinds of music and I am always looking forward to
learn and discover new music.

To have an overall idea of how an hour class could look like:

- 10 minutes of warming up and technic (instrumental technic, hand positioning
and air/sound projection);
- 10 min of music theory (theory and sight reading);
- 10 min of ear training (relationship between notes and sounds);
- 25 min of learning a song (transcription and memorize);
- 5 to 10 min of reflection over the class.

Aside from teaching, I’ve performed at festivals and clubs around Europe and the
United States. I've recorded albums as a sideman and during the last 5 years I've been
working on my own project. Lucas Martínez Project started in Amsterdam and so far
held me to the finals of the Keep An Eye Jazz Competition (2018), Semifinal of the
Dutch Jazz Competition (2018), and made me able to win the Incentive Price at the
semifinals of the Keep An Eye Jazz Competition (2017). With this band and together
with the Fresh Sound New Talent Label, I've recorded my upcoming album End of a
Cycle and my previous one Lights & Shadows.

Come and enjoy the perks of becoming a musician.
Hopefully one day you will record your own sound!

Saxophone Lessons - Music Theory Lessons Jazz - Improvisation Lessons
Studied jazz musician gives saxophone lessons, focused on the joy of making music. You decide where to go. I'm on stage full-time. I am currently involved in a large number of projects with various musical styles. My references include an appearance on the Dutch television station L1mburg TV, as well as a concert on the public radio program NPO Jazz in the Netherlands, as well as appearances at various jazz festivals, including North Sea Jazz Rotterdam, JazzOut Limburg and the Göttingen Jazz Festival. Music has accompanied me since early childhood. I started playing the flute when I was five and the saxophone when I was nine. After gaining a lot of experience in big bands, funk/soul bands, rock bands and other projects, my interests culminated in studying jazz and saxophone at the Maastricht Conservatory, which I successfully completed in 2021. About the lesson: It's not just about jazz. You determine the style of music. Whether pop, funk or soul, I'm open to everything. Reflection is the be-all and end-all. I'll teach you music theory and everything to do with sax. The feel and the fun of making music is always the focus. You decide which direction we take. If desired, improvisation plays a major role. The course is suitable for all ages and levels. I take the time to adapt to you and to fulfill your wishes e.g. music style, direction etc.. Electric bass lessons - Pedagogy adapted to all levels
A seasoned and passionate musician since the age of 15, I gave my first lessons more than 10 years ago. I am an excellent pedagogue, and I adapt to the level of the student, whether in terms of technical mastery of the instrument, ability to read notes (or tablature), as well as understanding music theory and of the theory. I put myself at the service of the student, his level and his tastes and musical projects. I have a thorough knowledge of music theory, particularly in jazz, and a long experience of playing together (jazz, rock and progressive metal). I can thus provide the theoretical elements necessary for the student to fully appropriate his instrument, at his own pace, and be able to play in a group, invent bass lines, improvise and compose pieces. The bass is the most important instrument in a musical ensemble, whether in jazz, rock, blues, funk, metal or pop. She is the benchmark for all other musicians, she defines both rhythm and harmony, and she literally makes the bodies of the listeners vibrate. 4, 5 or 6 string electric bass

Music Theory/Composition in Classical/Jazz for Beginners/Intermediates
Understanding music theory is essential when becoming a musician of any kind, as it deepens one's knowledge of how exactly music works. The more one knows about it, the better they can listen to, perform and write music. In the rich history of the subject, a clear narrative of evolution can be found that shows how music has arrived at the stage it is at today, all of which can be seen in the application of music theory and how it has changed over time. This is my biggest passion, and I would love to share my knowledge with any beginners wanting to develop/strengthen their musical competency or intermediates who want to focus on a specific aspect of classical or jazz and really understand how it works. As an introduction to myself: I have studied music theory and composition for a few years in various countries at various institutions (private lessons in Düsseldorf, briefly at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and currently at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna), and have had experience in tutoring/teaching since I tutored math, history, and biology in school to friends of mine. I like to think my ability to teach comes from my parents, who are both teachers and whose passion for helping others learn definitely influenced me! I have experience with teaching children, where I helped many younger students with playing music when I was in high-school, meaning I know how to make learning a fun process for just about anyone. Music and teaching are two of my biggest passions, and I have been told that is quite noticeable simply upon meeting me, as my enthusiasm is very contagious. I guarantee that every student will receive their very own lesson plan catered exactly to what the student wishes or needs to learn, and what I believe the best way to learn it would be. Lessons could cover categories such as: - Learning music notation in all its different forms and how to read scores from solo instruments to extremely large ensembles (learning the skills of instrumentation and arranging as well) - Music history and the analysis of works from notable composers from any era of classical or jazz - Music theory essentials that are likely to come up on any music theory test such as four part writing, figured bass, any form of cadence, writing traditional melodies and countermelodies - Composition techniques used throughout history and how one can use the music of the past to influence the music of the future. The lesson plan will also be adjusted to make sure that learning is happening at a pace that works with the student. There can be regularly scheduled tests for the student in any of the different categories mentioned above in order to ensure that the student fully understands what is being taught. Music is one of the greatest things in the world, and I can safely say that being able to help others learn all the amazing components of music as I have is something I take incredibly seriously. I will make sure that whether after one lesson, ten, or twenty, you will come away from this knowing more than you did before.
